“It’s rewarding to see how much students appreciate and respect good quality design in their school facilities and are willing to take care of them.”

SCOTT BERGE, ARCHITECT, AIA, LEED AP

Bachelor of Architecture, 2003, California Polytechnic State University

Scott Berge joined DLM Architecture in 2007 after relocating to the Bay Area from Southern California. His previous experience includes civic and national defense projects including facility renovations at the Coronado Naval Amphibious Base, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Camp Pendleton, and Travis Air Force Base.

As a project manager with DLM, Scott led the design team in the De Anza High School Campus Replacement and Field Renovation, a multi-phase, multi-year project involving interim housing and a continuously-occupied site. The project required extensive coordination with the transit district, PG&E, and the City of Richmond for street improvements that included bus access, utility relocation, and new traffic signals. Scott worked with the Collaborative for High Performance Schools, the California Department of Education, DSA’s HPS program, and PG&E Savings By Design to get additional funding and grants for the project. Scott’s strengths lie in his attention to detail, knowledge of durable building materials, and energy-efficient design.

Scott has a passion for community design that benefits thousands of people. As opposed to his former architectural career designing for the military, he strives to select materials and design layouts that have a warm, non-institutional feel so that students and staff take joy in occupying the facilities. However, he uses his knowledge from previous work to determine long-lasting materials. He believes that the greatest reward is to see users taking pride in their facilities.

Growing up as the son of a mechanical engineer and general contractor, Scott learned about design and materials by hands-on experience from an early age. Outside of the office, he enjoys working on home projects with his wife as well as rebuilding classic cars with his Dad.
